As our nation navigates major legislative turmoil, geopolitical tensions, extreme weather events, widespread civil protests, and even celestial phenomena, we at All Things Praise would like to lighten the mood a bit, if only for a short moment in time.  Guess what Fellow Praisers!  It’s Summer!!   This means it’s time to relax and have fun in the sun! 

Summer is possibly the most anticipated time of the year. It is when most people vacation, spend time with family, or simply take a slower pace in life.  One way to achieve all of the above is to have a Family Reunion!  Family Reunions are held to celebrate family connections and strengthen bonds.  Usually, different reunion committee leaders take turns and plan the event each year, which takes a lot of stress off the family members who only want to show up and enjoy themselves.

My family recently began travelling to Amelia Island, FL annually for our family vacation/reunion.  Although I have yet to make a trip, I still enjoyed looking at the videos and pictures of my loved ones who did attend.  We have lost two family members since last year, which makes attending these events even more meaningful.  It has caused me to reflect and put more effort into time spent with family.  Let’s explore some fun activities that you can incorporate into your Family Reunion:

🧩 1. Family Trivia Game

Create a trivia quiz with questions about family history, milestones, birthdays, and fun facts. Split into teams for a competitive and educational game.

📸 2. Photo Booth with Props

Set up a themed photo booth with hats, wigs, signs, and costumes. Provide instant cameras or a smartphone station for easy sharing.

🧬 3. Family Tree Display

Print out or create a large family tree chart. Have relatives add pictures or memories on sticky notes. This is great for younger members to learn their roots.

🧺 4. Picnic or BBQ in the Park

A classic outdoor reunion with games like sack races, three-legged races, or water balloon tosses.

🎨 5. DIY T-Shirt Decorating

Buy plain shirts and fabric markers or tie-dye kits. Let each family member design their own “Reunion 2025” shirt.

🎭 6. Family Talent Show

Encourage family members to perform (singing, dancing, poetry, etc.). Kids especially love being part of this.

🎮 7. Reunion Olympics

Plan simple events like:

• Egg spoon races
• Tug-of-war
• Wheelbarrow races
• Hula hoop contests
  Give small medals or ribbons as prizes.

🍿 8. Outdoor Movie Night

Set up a projector and show a family-friendly film. Don’t forget blankets, popcorn, and bug spray!

🕵️‍♀️ 9. Family Scavenger Hunt

Create a hunt with clues related to family stories, names, or reunion landmarks. Include both indoor and outdoor challenges.

📖 10. Memory Sharing Circle

Sit around a campfire or under string lights and invite relatives to share favorite memories or lessons from older generations.
